Volkswagen is one of the most popular hatchbacks in the polo segment. It has been in production for almost 12 years and recently Volkswagen announced that they are stopping production of the hatchback. To celebrate the 12th anniversary of the hatchback, Volkswagen India has launched the Polo Legend Edition. The Volkswagen Polo Legend is a limited edition car and will be sold across all Volkswagen dealerships across India. Volkswagen has not made any major changes to the overall design of the Polo in India. Dealerships will stop taking bookings for Polo from June this year.
The Volkswagen Polo Legend version is based on the current Polo GT TSI variant. It is powered by the same 1.0 liter, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 110 Ps and 175 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The car has cosmetic changes that set it apart from regular polo. The front fender and boots have legend branding. It comes with black decals, black garnishes on boots, black ceiling and so on. Volkswagen will make 700 units of the Legend version and is priced at Rs 10.25 lakh, ex-showroom.
Speaking at the launch of Polo Legend, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said: “The Volkswagen Polo is an iconic carline that has aroused a lot of excitement among consumers. From its inception to the present day, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed the privilege of being the first car for a family, the dream of an enthusiast and the choice for a mother with timeless and sporty design, safety, fun to drive.” Experience and strong build quality. Volkswagen Polo is one of the brand’s favorite products that deserves a gorgeous celebration. For this reason, the brand is introducing a limited “legend version” of the celebration for enthusiasts who would be proud to own the last limited unit of Iconic Polo. “
In India, we got fifth generation polo. It was built locally for the production of a Skoda-Volkswagen at Chakan near Pune. It was the first car to be manufactured locally by a manufacturer in India. Production began in 2009 and sales of the Polo began in 2010. The hatchback has been selling in India ever since. Internationally, Polo has received a generational update but, it has not come to India. We continue to get fifth generation polo with minor cosmetic changes and feature updates. Volkswagen Polo is a very popular car among the enthusiastic community.
The main reason why Volkswagen was able to sell polo in the Indian market is design. The design of the car is easy to see but, even today it does not show the date. With the timeless design of hatchbacks and good engine options that manufacturers have offered year after year, it has helped to make a place for itself in the premium hatchback segment. Along with the Polo, Volkswagen will also discontinue the Vento sedan from the market. It will be replaced by their all-new sedan Virtus which will be launched next month.
