The EPA 2022 certifies the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck at a range of up to 320 miles, the automaker announced Monday. For more than 40 years, Ford has been expecting the electric version of America’s best-selling car to reach a maximum range of 300 miles.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a choice of two battery packs, the size being 98 kwh for the standard range model and 131 kwh for the extended range model. The Lightning XLT and Lariat Extended Range have EPA-certified 320 mile range; Heavy Lightning Platinum has a 300 mile range. Ford says Fleet customers can also get the extended range model for 320 miles.
Standard range models have a 230-mile range, including the Base Lightning Pro, which costs 40,000 before destination.
The EPA did not update its website at press time, but the estimated range and size of the battery pack gives an efficiency rating of about 2.4 miles per kilowatt for extended range models. The standard range is 2.3 miles per kilowatt.
It has the same efficiency rating of the smaller Revian R1T electric pickup truck with 135-kwh pack and 314-mile range. The GMC Hummer has a range of 329 miles thanks to the huge 200-kilowatt battery pack, but it’s not as efficient with a rating of around 1.6 miles / kilowatt.
Lightning can double as a backup house generator for up to three days.
