The 2022 Ford F-150 is rated up to 320 miles of lightning range

The EPA 2022 certifies the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck at a range of up to 320 miles, the automaker announced Monday. For more than 40 years, Ford has been expecting the electric version of America’s best-selling car to reach a maximum range of 300 miles.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning comes with a choice of two battery packs, the size being 98 kwh for the standard range model and 131 kwh for the extended range model. The Lightning XLT and Lariat Extended Range have EPA-certified 320 mile range; Heavy Lightning Platinum has a 300 mile range. Ford says Fleet customers can also get the extended range model for 320 miles.

Standard range models have a 230-mile range, including the Base Lightning Pro, which costs 40,000 before destination.

The EPA did not update its website at press time, but the estimated range and size of the battery pack gives an efficiency rating of about 2.4 miles per kilowatt for extended range models. The standard range is 2.3 miles per kilowatt.

It has the same efficiency rating of the smaller Revian R1T electric pickup truck with 135-kwh pack and 314-mile range. The GMC Hummer has a range of 329 miles thanks to the huge 200-kilowatt battery pack, but it’s not as efficient with a rating of around 1.6 miles / kilowatt.

Lightning can double as a backup house generator for up to three days. If the Resurrection situation is not your thing, it has a front trunk that can be doubled as cool for the final tailgate or hunting expedition. It has a 10,000-pound towing capacity, approximately 320-mile range, and approximately 0-60 miles per hour in about 4.4 seconds.

It looks like an F-150, it works like an F-150, and an F-150 with a starting price of about $ 53,000 for an XLT trim crew cab with 5-foot-5 beds and four-wheel drive. “We’re not here to build an electric truck for a few people – Ford is committed to creating one that solves real problems for real people,” Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s president in the United States, said in a statement.

The Revian R1T will not be the only electric pickup truck competing for the mid-size pickup and GMC Hummer EV F-150 Lightning. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverrado EV will arrive next year, and a Ram 1500 EV repeat is expected for 2024. Chimeras, known as Tesla Cybertracks, may or may not come. Ever. But the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning looks like a traditional full-size pickup truck.

The differences between this and Ford’s bread and butter are small. The frank rise above the bumper level contributes to this being an inch longer, and the huge battery packs suspended between the axles of the floor account for 8.9 inches of ground clearance which is less than half an inch from the 2021 F-150 crew cab and a cab that is 1.7 inches long. More aerodynamic running boards and different wheel designs mark a difference from the 2021 F-150 which includes a hybrid model.

On the front, outside the charge port above the driver’s side front fender, the Lightning acquires its distinctive badge. Classic C-clamp headlights bridge a single LED lightbar across the front of the higher trim, and the grille becomes a solid air reflector. A single light bar also extends the tailgate, but don’t look for a tailpipe at the bottom.

The skid plate protects dual-in-board motors powered by a standard-range battery pack with an extended-range pack with 230 miles or 320 miles. Any one pack can charge the motor to produce 775 lb-ft of torque, while the standard range produces 426 hp and the larger pack produces 563 hp. Lightning with extended range can flash 60 miles per hour in the mid-four-second range.

It will take a long time to charge. On a 150-kw Level 3 DC Fast Charger, Lightning can recharge from 15% to 80% in 41 minutes, or about 54 miles per minute. At home, owners must install at least a 32-amp, 240-watt level 2 charger. An available 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro can charge the truck in about 10 hours. If you opt for this additional installation, the truck, once charged, can power your home for up to three days in emergencies or up to 10 days with rationing, Ford said.

Many of those juices can also be used outdoors. Like the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid, a 2.4-kilowatt outlet can charge power tools and other electronics, or the Loriat and Platinum trims come with a 7.2-kilowatt outlet on the small bed and a 2.4-kilowatt outlet on the upper rim. The resistant Frank can carry 14.1 cubic feet of staff or 400 pounds of payload, and Ford says it is large enough for two sets of golf clubs. It has two USB chargers and four electrical outlets.

The smartphone runs inside onboard power with the digitization of an interface like a 15.5-inch touchscreen with compatible and natural voice control. A 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster can show everything from bluecruise limited hands-free driving systems to regenerative braking to driver assist system status.

Then there are all the traditional F-150 features. The Ford features a lightweight standard-range model with 18-inch wheels with a payload of 2,000 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds on the XLT and Lariat trim with the extended range and Max trailer tow package. The aluminum alloy body rides in a rear independent suspension and four drive modes — General, Sport, Off Road and To / Hall সাহায্য help to correct the situation.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is built at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center outside of Detroit.
