We are a month away from the unveiling of the first BMW M4 CSL and the top midsize coupe is back in Nurburgring for further testing. Last week, YouTuber Misha Charudin shared some insights into the performance of the BMW M4 CSL at Nবারrburg. YouTuber says that according to its unofficial lap time, the M4 CSL was clocked between 7:15 and 7:20. But since the prototype does not appear to have been flattened out, he hopes the official times will reduce that time by an additional 10 seconds.
Currently, the 2022 M5 CS is the fastest production series BMW in the vicinity of Nurburgring. Sport auto test driver Christian Gabbard was able to rush the M5 CS around the track at just 7: 29.57. In comparison, the BMW M4 GTS F82 lapped the track at 7: 27.88. The lap time of the current BMW M4 competition was 7: 30.79. Regardless of the Nurburgring lap time, the BMW M4 CSL will be one of the best M cars ever produced, and one of the most limited cars.
We expect to produce about 1,000 units for the world market, of which about 150-200 are reserved for Germany and at least 300 units for the US market, the largest M market in the world. When it launches, the BMW M4 CSL will use the same 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged inline-six (S58) but with about 550 horsepower. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission power only on the rear wheels.
There are also rumors that the BMW M4 is about 100 kilograms lighter than the CSL M4 competition. The BMW M4 CSL will lose some weight through a few carbon fiber body panels, a more snug interior, a rear bench delete and some less noise insulation. The M4 CSL will also get some unique carbon fiber bucket seats. The upper shoulder portion of the seat is made of carbon fiber and has a large open portion, seemingly ready for racing harness.
There is no word yet on the price, but we don’t expect the BMW M4 CSL to be cheaper. Considering that the BMW M4 GTS was priced at $ 146,000 almost 10 years ago, the German market will probably keep the price of the M4 CSL above 150,000 euros. [Top image: instagram.com/wilcoblok]
