Maruti Suzuki will launch the new generation of Brazer in late May this year. Now, we have got more information about the engine and gearbox of the upcoming compact SUV. According to Autocar India, Maruti Suzuki will also update the engine and gearbox of the 2022 Brezza.
It was previously expected that the 2022 Brezza would receive the new K12C DualJet VVT petrol engine from the upcoming 2022 Ertiga and 2022 XL6. Now, media reports indicate it’s true. The new K12C engine will replace the existing K12B petrol engine.
Both engines are four-cylinder, naturally aspirated units with a displacement of 1.5-liters. The K12B engine produces 104 PS of maximum power whereas the new K12C engine is expected to produce maximum power of 115 PS. The torque output of the K12B engine is 138 Nm, the official figure of the K12C engine has not been released yet but we expect it to be around 140 Nm. As standard, the new engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The K12C engine uses two injectors per cylinder instead of one injector per cylinder. This gives the manufacturer more precise control over the fuel over. There will also be an idle start-stop which will stop the engine when the car stops and restart the engine when the clutch is pressed. This will help boost the energy economy and reduce emissions. Finally, there will also be a CNG powered version of the Brazer.
New gearbox
Maruti Suzuki will eventually upgrade to a new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission that will replace the existing 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 4-speed auto re-launched in 2003 and is still on duty in some vehicles.
The new gearbox will support paddle shifters mounted on the back of the steering wheel and will have some sort of sports or manual mode. The new transmission will move faster and more smoothly than the current unit. The biggest advantage of the new transmission is that it is a 6-speed unit so it will be able to extract more fuel efficiency from the engine as the engine will revise at triple-digit speeds when traveling on the highway. Also, it is said that the new transmission will help the engine to meet the upcoming emissions regulations.

The new Brazer spy shot has already been leaked online. We know it will now come with an electric sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, an SOS feature, cruise control and 6 airbags in higher variants. The dashboard will be modified, the instrument cluster will be new and the steering wheel will also be borrowed from Swift. It will still be a multi-function unit. The highlight of the dashboard will be the new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that we already saw in the 2022 Baleno.
